Cape Verde Aviation Authority to Expand and Promote Gender Equality

The Civil Aviation Agency of Cabo Verde (AAC) is about to start construction of a new headquarters and, in parallel, implement measures to promote gender equality in the sector. The information was announced today by the president of AAC, Mário Margarito Gomes, during a seminar on gender inclusion and environmental sustainability in civil aviation.

The new AAC headquarters, with an area of 1,400 square meters, will be built on the avenue of Nelson Mandela International Airport, in Praia, and is expected to be completed in 2026. The infrastructure will include a civil aviation academy and a museum, with the aim of training new professionals and preserving the history of the sector in Cape Verde.

In parallel with the construction of the new headquarters, the AAC aims to increase the number of women in the civil aviation sector, which is currently dominated by men. To this end, the agency will develop a project to promote civil aviation in schools, with the aim of awakening the interest of young women in this professional area.

The Prime Minister of Cape Verde, Ulisses Correia e Silva, who attended the seminar, stressed the importance of gender equality in the civil aviation sector and committed to implementing public policies that promote equality. The minister also announced a review of the legal framework for civil aviation, with the aim of increasing efficiency and reducing bureaucracy in the sector, without compromising safety.

With regard to environmental sustainability, the AAC President highlighted the importance of monitoring greenhouse gas emissions and promoting the use of renewable energy in the civil aviation sector.
